Our Mission

Homeschool Alabama (formerly Christian Home Education Fellowship of Alabama) was formed in 1988 with the mission to encourage home educators by providing information and resources and to promote a safe legal environment for home schooling in Alabama. The Homeschool Alabama Education Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization started in 2016 that seeks to educate and promote Christian home education in Alabama. Its work is supported by tax-deductible contributions. 

Homeschool Alabama is governed by a self-perpetuating volunteer board of veteran home educators from across Alabama. Each couple on the board brings a wealth of experience in Christian home education.

God has called Homeschool Alabama to encourage home-based, parent-led, privately-funded home education from the Christian perspective. Following is a description of our main purposes and activities:

  • Promote home education in Alabama from the Christian perspective, with emphasis on family values. We believe home education is essential to building strong families. We also believe that all knowledge must be understood from the perspective of the Bible and Christian principles. Our various activities to promote home education will encourage home educators responding to the call of God to educate their children from a Christian point of view.

  • Partner with regional and local home educators across the state to share resources and expertise to homeschooling families.

  • Protect rights of Alabama home educators by working to keep home education legal and safe in Alabama and the United States. As we become aware of important issues affecting homeschooling, we communicate with our network of state leaders.

  • Provide assistance in establishing church schools, private schools, and support groups across the state. We work with local leaders to help them establish church schools that are compliant with Alabama law and most effective for facilitating home schooling under the church school law.

  • Offer advice to all homeschoolers and seek to find the best legal option for individual families.

  • Publish information on various aspects of home education in Alabama from the Christian perspective. Through this website and social media, Homeschool Alabama will work to keep home educators in Alabama informed of developments in the area of home education and provide resources for home educators and home education leaders.
