Homeschool Alabama is governed by a self-perpetuating volunteer board of veteran home educators from across Alabama. Board members serve as husband-and-wife teams. Each family unit on the board has been active in local leadership for a number of years and brings to the board a wealth of experience in Christian home education. Here is a brief introduction of our board members:
Gus & Irene Tucker
Board president & Board Member
Gus Tucker is currently the president of the board of Homeschool Alabama. The Tuckers are from Huntsville, Alabama. They are the proud parents of five children. They have been home schooling for over 15-years. Gus is a college professor and Irene has been at home since 2005. The Tuckers are actively involved and committed to Christian Home Education. They began serving on the board in 2013.
Harriet Rand
Harriet Rand is originally from Johnson City Tennessee, attended Spelman College and served in the United States Army. She worked in the healthcare industry for thirteen years and even served as COO/CFO for an international chemical manufacturing company. Harriet was a corporate trainer for 10 years and taught seminary courses in Christian Education. Currently, she is the administrator of Faith Covenant Academy, a home school academy based in Alabama. She is staff clergy at Redemptive Life Church in Huntsville, Alabama, USA and has traveled internationally teaching Christian Education.
John and Darlene Harcrow
We have been married for 37 years and still love spending one on one time with each other. We have 2 children with 7 beautiful grandchildren. We live in Ohatchee, AL. John has his own construction business and Darlene is the SR. Administrator of Pathways Academy Church School. We have homeschooled a combined total of 23 years. Our heart is for homeschooling and for the parents who choose to step out of the box to educate their children.
Ron & Debbie Landry
BOARD MEMBERS
Ron and Debbie Landry are both board members. Debbie Landry served as Administrator of Crossroads Christian School for 30 years and was the first Executive Director for Homeschool Alabama. She and her husband Ron graduated three homeschooled students and are the proud grandparents of seven grandchildren. Ron is retired from the Alabama Air National Guard.
Scott & Jacki Riley
Board members
Scott and Jacki have five daughters, all homeschool graduates. Three are college graduates as well, while their last daughter is currently attending college. They serve on the board of Homeschool Alabama because they believe in homeschooling and want to encourage others in their journey. Scott currently serves as Treasurer of Homeschool Alabama.
Kristy Trent
BOARD MEMBER
Kristy Trent is originally from Birmingham but has lived (and homeschooled) in several different areas of the country. She holds a bachelor's degree with an endorsement in elementary education from Lee University while currently working on a master's degree from Wheaton College. Kristy has homeschooled her four children for over 20 years with two graduates already completing college degrees and a second generation of homeschoolers soon to be born. Kristy enjoys serving the homeschool community as shown through her coordination of activities for Birmingham Homeschoolers Community and her passion as administrator of Essential Church School, a Christian school offering enrollment for homeschooling students. She is honored to be a part of Homeschool Alabama and its mission to support the homeschooling families within our state.
